If I got the proposal on the right on my desk, it would go in the "reject" pile ASAP. It shows a lack of creativity on the part of proposal writer, and the last thing I want to do is read pages and pages of text when I have 34 other proposals to review that day!

This is so true! Why do companies seem to forget about layout, graphics, and type except as an afterthought in a bid or if only to comply with brand rules/guidelines. We know the science of visual ergonomics in advertising and print media but why ignore it in competitive business documents? Sometimes I feel this is an area marketing teams could do better to support sales.

Excellent interview with really good advice! Mike and his partner both do knockout workshops at all the major events for proposal professionals. Very excited to hear the new book is out. Wonderful company, not only does top-notch work, but really gives back to the community. Anyone working on government (especially defense) contracts should be working with this company. Thank you for such an insighful interview.
